Is this a nice enough gift for my mother-in-law for Christmas?
I bought my mother-in-law a $70 Vera Bradley Bag for Christmas, do you think this is a nice enough gift? My husband and I were trying to keep things to about $50 per person for this Christmas since we're expecting a baby and really trying very hard to save for that. Our whole family is aware that there is a baby on the way and I know that they understand we're trying to save. It's just that his whole side of the family always spends SO much on us. We already got the fridge that his parents gave us $800 towards for this Christmas and I know they bought us more. I feel so stingy to give her a $70 bag. I just can't go into debt over Christmas, but I don't want to look cheap!! Is anyone else in this boat?!
That is just fine. You sound very considerate.
I always spend way more on my son and his wife and my grandkids than they do on us and I could care less. I love splurging on them and it is my choice.
As a mom and mil the most important part of Christmas is for me to spend time with my family. The joy on my grandchildren faces as they open their presents from grandma and grandpa. That is gift enough for my husband and myself.
Just remember that is their choice to spend so much on you, parents love to do this if we are able. We do not expect the same in return. Nor would I ever want my son and dil to go into debt for gifts. I bet they are overjoyed thinking how much fun next year will be with a new baby.
I may suggest a very nice Christmas card from both of you with a personal note. Now that is priceless.
